Luke Alex Atkinson (b. 1985) makes paintings that engage with memory, dreams, and lived experience – inspired by the potential for discovery found in the constant spectacle of form, space, and surface. Working with a contemporary sensibility, grounded in the history of art, he creates a complete, unified vision that speaks to today.
Atkinson grew up on Grand Manan Island in New Brunswick, Canada. He holds a BFA from Winthrop University and an MFA from Louisiana State University. He also studied at the New York Academy of Art, Art Students League of New York, Grand Central Atelier, and Russian Academy of Arts. Recently, he held a solo show at Rat Trap (Bogotá), and was featured in shows at the Ogden Museum (New Orleans), Homme (DC), Susan Eley Fine Art (NYC), Edit Gallery (Cyprus), Auxier Kline (NYC), and 68 Jay Street (Brooklyn). He lives and works in Brooklyn, NY.
